October Outreach Events

2014-10-01

For Canadians interested in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM), October holds many opportunities to have fun and explore!

This week across Canada, Let's Talk Science is celebrating the 11th National Biotechnology Week! Yesterday, in London, ON the annual BIOlympics event was hosted by TechAlliance, bringing together teams of Grade 7 and 8 students and community and business leaders. Let's Talk Science Outreach volunteers from Western University took part with their Crazy Crop Conundrum challenge for students to learn about biotech in agriculture. Also this week, our Let's Talk Science Outreach volunteers at the University of Toronto, St. George campus have been busy raising stem cell awareness. Each year, they celebrate Stem Cell Awareness Day by visiting local schools to do hands-on activities.

Later this month there are even more dates to look forward to! October 17-26th is National Science and Tech Week, while October 18-25th is National Chemistry Week. And of course, we can't forget about Halloween! Our local Outreach programs have been busy recruiting and training volunteers, getting ready for some fun events this month.
