Where wonder and discovery grow
Let’s Talk Science knows investments in early childhood education reap considerable benefits over the lifetime of a child. Children who participate in meaningful early learning experiences are more likely than their peers to complete school, realize better health outcomes and secure jobs.
To support early learners, Let’s Talk Science is currently developing an innovative and comprehensive suite of tools, resources and services for early years and primary grade educators in English and French.
Called IdeaPark, this central, dynamic, online place can be found at ExploreIdeaPark.org and includes Wings of Discovery® print resources, Webs of Wonder online resource and professional learning programs and in-person training opportunities for educators.
IdeaPark includes a customizable space for educators to sort and tailor resources – easing and enhancing their daily planning processes – and allows them to support young children’s development as critical thinkers and problem solvers.
Webs of Wonder
Where play and inquiry connect
Webs of Wonder is an online searchable database of integrated, cross-curricular explorations and investigations for early years and primary grade educators. Resources are designed to be inquiry- and play-based, combine literacy and numeracy and foster children’s skill development. Supporting resources include a professional learning toolbox with skill look-fors and learning strategy write-ups.
A variety of professional learning opportunities, including workshops, symposia, webinars, web-enabled networks and social media will be available for educators across the country. These professional learning opportunities will connect educators, allowing them to learn from each other, and will focus on developing the capacity and confidence of educators to support student success using a skills/inquiry/problem-solving approach.
Wings of Discovery®
Where exploration takes flight
Used in more than 1,900 child-care centres and Kindergarten classrooms across Canada, Wings of Discovery includes 17 print resources that help preschool and Kindergarten educators facilitate explorations with children. These resources engage young children’s innate curiosity about the world around them using science and technology as a context to integrate language, math, art and music.
